PE

At our school we believe a high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Aims

The National Curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives.

Early Years Foundation Stage

Our PE provision begins at Early Years Foundation Stage. Here, PE is experienced through a balanced provision of structured and free play environments. Children are introduced to a range of activities aimed at developing confidence, control and coordination in large and small movement.

Key Stage 1

In KS1, every child receives two PE lessons per week, usually comprising of one indoor and one outdoor lesson. Throughout the school year pupils will follow a programme of study which includes games, dance, gymnastics and athletics. As part of our commitment to our pupils’ well-being, fitness and health we offer an additional 30 minutes of exercise a week for every child. As part of our Sports Premium funding we employ a PE coach to teach high quality physical activity and to work alongside teachers in lessons to increase their subject knowledge and confidence. The coach also works with pupils during lunchtimes to ensure fun and active playtime's.

Our resident coach is Bryn Jenkins who works for a local company called Project Sport. If you would like to find out more about Project Sport and all the things they offer PE wise out of school click on the link below:
